UK Metro: When is The Kissing Booth 2 coming out as Joey King and Joel Courtney confirm return?

Even though critics weren’t too keen on the film adaptation of Beth Reekles’ book of the same name, with a 20% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and IndieWire calling it ‘sexist and outdated’, viewers apparently couldn’t get enough. In fact, Netflix’s own Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said it was ‘one of the most-watched movies in the country, and maybe in the world’. If you’re one of the people who tuned in the first time around and still want more, then stick around, because we’ve got the latest on when the sequel is going to drop. But look out anyone who doesn’t know the ending of the first film, because there are spoilers ahead…

Joey King and Joel Courtney, both of whom starred in the first The Kissing Booth film as best friends Elle Evans and Lee Flynn, each announced on their Twitter yesterday (Valentine’s Day) that the sequel would be going forward. Pre-production for The Kissing Booth two has already begun, and shooting is thought to start later on this year. No dates have been confirmed as yet, but we can probably expect the film to hit Netflix sometime in 2020. The first movie, directed by Vince Marcello, follows Elle as she falls for Lee’s bad boy brother Noah (played by Jacob Elordi), and ended with tearful goodbyes as Noah went off to college.

Marcello will be coming back to direct, and it’s clear from the teaser trailer that King and Courtney will be reprising their roles as BFFs. Since there’s not been very many details revealed about the film so far, there’s still no telling if or how Noah is going to come back into Elle’s life, or what’s in store when it comes to her friendship with Lee. The Kissing Booth is available to stream on Netflix now – while Beth Reekles’ book is available on Amazon.
